International Airport
The Abu Dhabi International Airport (IATA: AUH. ICAO: OMAA) is one of the fastest growing airports in the world in terms of passenger traffic, infrastructure development and airline operators. The Abu Dhabi International Airport is the home for Etihad Airways which is the second largest UAE carrier after Emirates. The airport is located 26km east of the city of Abu Dhabi.
The airport has three terminals, and the latest terminal 3 opened for operation in 2009 enabling the airport to handle approximately 12 million passengers per annum. A fourth terminal is located in the city which allows passengers to check in their baggage and get their boarding passes. They can then take a shuttle to the airport and head straight away to the departure lounge.
Over 34 airlines operate regular flights to the airport and flights depart for 150 destinations worldwide. There are a number of facilities available at the airport.
Internet and Telephone; Free wireless internet is available throughout the airport. There are several pay phones located in all the terminals from where local and international calls can be made.
Currency Exchange: There are 16 currency exchange counters located throughout the airport. Some of the banks located at the airport also offer foreign exchange services.
Banking and Cash Services: There are several ATMs located in all the terminals and there are banks that provide full banking services.
Medical Help: Abu Dhabi airport is well equipped to handle medical emergencies. There is a 24/7 operated medical clinic located in terminal 1. In case of emergencies there is an ambulance service available. There are pharmacies located in all the three terminals of the airport.
Toilets and Showers: Toilets for men and women are located throughout the airport. There are baby change rooms and nursing rooms located next to the restrooms. There are free public showers located near departure gates 32 and 37. Use of these showers is free. There are showers in the business lounges as well.
Porters and Trolleys: There are porters and trolleys available at all the three terminals. Porters are clearly marked by their uniforms. The trolleys are free of charge and easy to locate near the car parks and outside the entrance gates of the terminals.
Smoking Areas: There are smoking lounges and booths located in all the three terminals.
Prayer Rooms: There are prayer rooms for men and women that are clearly marked and located in all the three terminals.
Asides from these facilities there are a number of services that are available at the airport. These services include; baggage wrapping, airport lounges, spa, parking, meet and assist services, car rental and business center services. To facilitate passengers there are a number of restaurants and shops located throughout the airport. Like any other international airport there are duty free shops located inside the departure lounges. These duty free shops sell everything from watches to perfumes to designer ware to electronics. In fact the duty free shops are some of the best stocked duty free shops in the world.
